1936,  66 minutes,  Columbia Pictures, mono sound, black and white. (Also known as Dan Matthews)

Reviews: The Motion Picture Guide (MPG) and Variety critics agreed that this movie was awful.  "A mediocre adaptation," said MPG.  "Pretty creaky film fair today."  Variety used almost the same words, ". . . a slow article and creaky film material."

Richard Arlen plays Dan Matthews, a preacher out to clean up the gambling and vice in "Old Town."  (Eric Tudor, who has seen the movie says this "Old Town" looks more like Chicago than Lebanon, Missouri, the setting of Harold Bell Wright's  novel.)

Release:  Columbia release

Production: Sol Lesser production

Director:  Phil Rosen

Writing/Screenplay: Dan Jarrett, Don Swift, Karl Brown, (based on the novel by Harold Bell Wright.)

Character Actor
Dan Matthews Richard Arlen
Hope Strong Charlotte Wynters
Hardy Douglas Dumbrille
Kitty Marley Mary Kornman
Blair Donald Cook
J. B Strong Frederick Burton
Hypo Lee Moran
Herman Tommy Dugan
Partington Edward McWade

Availability: According to Rick Gunter, this movie is not lost. Richard Moore, a knowledgeable HBW collector reports that he bought a copy of this movie on DVD in 2008 from the Shepherd of the Hills Farm in Branson, Missouri.
