V.  Biographic Pamphlets

The Book Supply Company printed a biographical brochure or pamphlet to accompany The Shepherd of the Hills, and later one to go with When A Manís a Man.  The latter was also printed as an appendix in the back of The Recreation of Brian Kent.
Appleton printed inside the dust jacket of at least their first four books an offer for a brochure about Wright.  Early Appleton brochures could be obtained for only your name and address, later ones required a 10-cent stamp.  The brochures are (click on titles to read full contents):

40.    With Compliments of the Publishers to Readers of The Shepherd of The Hills, by RPS, 1907. (Click on title to see photo)

41.    Harold Bell Wright as I know Him, by E. W. Reynolds, 1911

42.    Harold Bell Wright, A Biography Intimate and Authoritative, by E. W. Reynolds, 1916. [Reprinted in back of The Recreation of Brian Kent]

43.    Harold Bell Wright, A Biography Intimate and Authoritative, by E. W. Reynolds, reprint of above with additional photos.  [Reprinted in back of The Recreation of Brian Kent]

44.    Harold Bell Wright (His Life and His Writings), Signed portrait of HBW on front.  "Helen of The Old House, by Harold Bell Wright" on back cover. 1921. No author named. The subtitle, His Life and His Times," is not printed anywhere on the booklet, but is mentioned in the offer for this booklet in Helen of the Old House.

45.    Harold Bell Wright, the Man Behind the Novels, by Hildegard Hawthorne, 1923.

46.    Harold Bell Wright, Author and Man. [I do not have a copy of this pamphlet yet, but I do have a copy of McCall's magazine, March 1925. The index lists a "Special Article" beginning on page 20: "Harold Bell Wright, Author and Man" by Blanche Colton Williams and J. Leo Meehan. When you turn to page 20 you find the beginnings of two separate stories by the two different authors: "The Inspired Novelist," by Williams, and "The Sterling American," by J. Leo Meehan. The first is presented as a story about the Author, the second as a story about the Man. Evidently, this brochure also combined these two stories. I have never seen any reason to believe that "The Sterling American" was published as a separate booklet, but it may have been.

47.    Harold Bell Wright, the Inspired Novelist, by Blanche Colton Williams, Ph.D [Published separately in 1925 to accompany and promote, A Son of His Father]
