The Man Who Went Away

List of Editions

Letter designations are from my book, Harold Bell Wright's Books and Collectibles.  Editions I have discovered since publishing the book are in this "teal" green color.

a. *Harpers, 1942, red, 8.25", yellow block on spine with red reversed letters, "FIRST EDITION/G-R,"  Full color illustration on dust jacket wraps around spine  {gc}

b.  Harpers, 1942, 2nd ed., identical to above but "SECOND EDITION" printed inside  {lt}

bb. Harpers, 1942, 3rd edition., identical to above but says, "THIRD EDITION."  Also has eagle on copyright page and says, "This book is complete and unabridged in contents, and is manufactured in strict conformity with Government regulations for saving paper." {RL}

c. Grosset & Dunlap, (1944), red, 7.75", blue block on spine with red letters, "wartime notice" printed inside.  Both books I am aware of show only the original publication date, 1942, but the Cumulative Book Index, 1943-48, mentions only a 1944 edition.  I will consider all Grosset & Dunlap's 1944 until proven otherwise.  {lt}

d.  Musson, (Toronto) {CBI 1938-42}

e.  Yestermorrow, 1991, limited edition (500 copies), red, drawing of HBW on cover.

f.  Philadelphia Inquirer, Gold Seal Novel Series, February 14, 1943. "Complete illustrated novel," published as a section of its Sunday edition. Twenty pages, 11" x 14".  Five illustrations including the cover. Illustrated by Harry Weinert.
